Yes, the weather is blustery-- but don't forget how cozy the Rite Spot is! Remember, it's coffee drink season and we are arguably the best!

Matt Bauer
The Finches
Mariee Sioux
Spare yet vivid, the songs of Nandina pair Matt Bauer's rich vocal
with drifting antique banjo lines from another time. A Kentucky
transplant, Bauer's now a Bay Area dweller who ties Southern musical
traditions to those of contemporary, local folk revivalists. Kindling
the kind of warm folk that fellow San Franciscan Jolie Holland
revitalizes, and meshing it with the darker explorations of The Court
& Spark or Virgil Shaw, Matt Bauer drifts down his own inlet. He
gently plucks and sings in an intriguing, signature style, melding a
bit of Iron & Wine and Richard Buckner to traditional bluegrass and folk.

Aquarius Records describes The Finches‚ „Six Songs‰ as: A no-frills
and super down to earth debut. As the title states this is a half
dozen tunes from Bay Area folksy folks The Finches. The duo of Ms
Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs and Aaron Morgan share the singin' and
guitar playin' duties, and Morgan also handles the bass playin' too.
Each of their songs is thoughtful, well-crafted and slightly rough
around the edges much like Carolyn's lovely lino-cut cover art.
Achingly intimate and pretty, and quite along the lines of folk-pop
songstresses such as Cat Power or Julie Doiron. Nice!

Mariee Sioux
Mariee‚s voice sounds like the sky above the ocean, like lace and
cowboy boots, like the woods of the Sierra foothills where she grew up
in Nevada City, CA. She finger picks her guitar with an ability
beyond her 20 years, and her songs are beautiful, tough, and full of
amazing imagery. Mountains that try to eat the sky, boats made of
bones, dresses made of ships‚ masts, dirt masks, love so fierce it
blocks the sun from the sky. Her debut cd is „Pray Me a Shadow.‰

Kitten on the Keys!

"Kitten on the Keys is a popular local performer whose satirical songs and campy costumes are a cocktail of drag-queen drama and Las Vegas glitz. A burlesque performer since 1999, Suzanne Ramsey started out as a pianist for the Cantankerous Lollies before taking Kitten on the Keys solo about year and a half ago. With a homemade sequined sign
attached to her electronic piano and a nearby trunk full of props, Kitten creates over-the- top personas that are as colorful as her wigs.
Transforming her Kewpie-doll face with each song, one moment she is a precocious girl with a conniving grandmother, the next a neurotic thirtysomething dumpling who laments weight gain and sexual frustration, singing, "Why did I eat so much bacon? / Why
do I look like a shar-pei? / Oh no no no no no / It's not a pretty princess day."

OCS
"...an introspective and revealing side to John Dwyer and his amazing
musicianship. In the last year he has played in half a dozen bands
that showcase an entertaining, absurd, bombastic flurry of noise,
sweat and manic motion mayhem. Though Dwyer's unmatched energy is a
much appreciated and needed force in music as evidenced with the huge
buzz surrounding Coachwhips, it is an unbelievable rare gift to see
Dwyer stripped to an acoustic guitar and a collage of noise. Dwyer
creates a more personal record that allows the listener to gain
insight on the genius and inner workings of a modern leader in the
underground music world. The melodies are beautiful, the songs as
interesting if not more so than any of his other bands. A fan of any
of his other projects will know that Dwyer's gonna mindfuck our heads
good and proper. Just because Dwyer chose to put down his electric
guitar and strum an acoustic, this can not be an "ordinary" singer
songwriter, folk acoustic thing. In fact, OCS is as intense and soul
grabbing as any band Dwyer's played in. The sonic layering, texture of
sound and perfectly captured moods creates a completely original
record. A secret for Dwyer's success is his ability to take a part of
who he is and fearlessly strip it down to some refined basic human
truth while coddled in that busted state of consciousness. OCS 2 is
the big invite for everybody to get nekkid and crawl in bed...cuz that
early morning's finally flooding in to bathe the bludgeoned brain in
soothing light after a savage night of sex, drugs and rock n'
roll...spoon yr inner child today.

MERIC LONG
There is no precise genre for Meric Long's undeniably reflective and
intense personal songs but his are the songs that draw you in and
insist that you listen. While the delivery and feel is tender the
songs convey an underlining hint of frustration, anger, confusion
which makes each song feel genuine and both from and to the heart.
Meric's beautifully sorrowful vocals ride smoothly on intricate finger
picking and his skill in song crafting makes 24 year old Meric Long a
talent to keep both eyes open for.

"I was stoned by myself the other day and I was thinking that what the
world needs now is a psycho psychedelic traditional futurist
folk-singer. How did Feller know? Thank God weirdos like this still
live in San Francisco."
